Company Background
Carver Machine Works, Inc. is an
employee owned subchapter S corporation
founded in 1976 by Leroy and David
Carver. The Company began operations as
a family owned and operated general
machine shop. It grew to include several
employees, primarily operating as a
rebuild facility for one major local
customer in the mining and chemical
processing industry. The Company has
since grown to more than 65 employees
and continues to service that original
large customer, as well as customers in
the pulp and paper, pharmaceutical,
chemical and tobacco industries. The
company became 75% employee owned in
1996 through an ESOP plan. The remaining
25% of stocks were purchased in 1998 and
the company elected to operate as an S
corporation. The Company facilities are
located in Washington, North Carolina
and currently sales are primarily in the
Eastern United States.
CMW
Values
CMW's highest priority is to best meet
stakeholder needs. In meeting that
priority, the company’s management, and
its employee owners commit to basing
decisions on and operating within the
guidelines of the following principles.
We will:
Do
the Right Thing
The goal of ours, indeed any business,
is to earn a profit and generate cash.
Without profits, we cannot grow and
achieve our goals, without them the
great game of business is over. Our
dedication to our values will allow us
to realize our goals; however, we will
not compromise our integrity in the name
of profits.
-
We will conduct ourselves ethically,
abiding by the principles of right
and wrong that govern our conduct in
our relationship with others.
-
We will be fair and honest in all
our dealings with our customers,
suppliers, officials, the public,
and each other.
-
We will obey the laws and customs in
the communities in which we do
business.
-
We will be good citizens and make
positive contributions to the
communities in which we do business.
Do
What We Say
Because we must have credibility with
our customers, our vendors, our
community and each other as being
dependable, we must start by setting
good examples for each other, from the
top down and from the bottom up.
-
We will practice what we preach,
walk the talk.
-
We will keep our promises, meet our
commitments, both internally and
externally.
-
We will not make promises that we
know we cannot keep.
Produce Quality Work
Quality and excellence are reflected in
how we build our products and provide
service to our customers. By not
compromising our quality, we enjoy the
fruits of a reputation of producing
quality and we are therefore held to
higher standards.
-
We will take pride in our work, our
products and services.
-
We will plan for quality in our
products and services, setting clear
and thorough specifications for each
stage of our processes.
-
We will pay close attention to
detail.
-
We will endeavor to do things right
the first time.
-
We will analyze the processes and
procedures by which we do our jobs,
correcting the root causes of
problems, and continuously seeking
ways to improve.
Deliver Outrageous Customer Service
Our products and services are tools for
helping our customers to produce their
products. We will help solve our
customer’s problems by working and
listening closely to them to satisfy
their specific requirements.
Service is an essential element of
quality products. We will provide the
best customer service in the industry.
We will go the extra mile to bring
solutions to our customers.
Exceed Expectations
Exceeding the expectations of our
customers, both internal and external,
is the single most important factor that
will affect the growth of our business.
However, this is not simply something
that you do, it is a business principle.
Every employee must have the belief that
the focus of our business is to exceed,
not simply meet customer needs.
-
We will go beyond the minimum
requirements of doing our job.
-
We will continually look for ways to
improve your efficiency.
-
We will create real relationships
and loyalties with our customers and
each other.
-
We will really listen to others to
determine their needs.
-
We will respond quickly.
Embrace Change
Change is an inevitable and necessary
factor in business, indeed in life. Like
everything else in life, there will be
both positive and negative changes that
we experience. Change presents us with
new opportunities in our careers and
personal lives. By embracing change with
quick realignments, we will maximize the
positive effects of change in our lives
and work. Change serves to transform us
from "doing work right" to the more
profitable contribution of "doing the
right work".
-
We will be willing to anticipate or
accept change when faced with it.
-
We will not deny or blame others for
change that has negative impact, as
denial and finger pointing increases
the negative impact.
-
We will invest the energy in
adapting to change, which will
increase productivity.
-
We will eliminate activities that
don't contribute enough to the
organization's current goals even if
we can do them magnificently right.
Help
Each Other
Teamwork is cooperative effort by group
members to achieve a common goal.
Teamwork is synergistic. Together we can
do more than we can collectively as
individuals. One plus one equals three.
Teamwork creates an environment in which
ideas and ingenuity flourish.
-
We will respect each other’s
abilities and contributions to the
team.
-
We will assist and support each
other.
-
We will share and celebrate the
rewards together.
-
We will demonstrate loyalty to each
other, the team, and the
organization.
Respect Each Individual
Virtually everyone recognizes that our
people are our greatest asset. A great
company needs great employees. Great
employees need to be informed about all
aspects of the business for which they
work and have a say in its operation.
Great employees need to have a stake in
the outcome. Each individual needs to be
respected for their unique
contributions.
-
We will treat each other with
dignity and respect.
-
We will maintain an environment
conducive to open communication.
-
We will value others opinions and
ideas.
-
We will encourage and provide
opportunities for continuing
education and training.
-
We will look for opportunities for
growth and advancement.
-
We will offer competitive
compensation.
-
We will retain and reward those who
contribute to the achievement of our
goals.
Have
Fun
Everybody knows that fun is ultimately
the best reason for doing anything. We
can help each other for the fun of it.
We can play for profit and work for fun.
To truly be happy, we have to enjoy
sharing the things we learn and the
things we have. If we keep them to
ourselves, we can’t enjoy them. When we
share our knowledge, we have people with
whom we can celebrate.
-
We will strive to make sure each
employee has productive, rewarding
work that they enjoy.
-
We will work to free each other from
the constraints of roles and rank,
from self and externally imposed
limitations.
-
We will celebrate our victories
together.
